Катасонова Елена ЛеонидовнаKatasonova Elena Leonidovna, Head of the Center for Japanese Studies. Candidate of Philology (1983); Doctor of Historical Sciences (2004).

Education: In 1973 graduated from the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University, specializing in Oriental philology. In 1983 graduated from the correspondence graduate school of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and defended a thesis on the topic "Features of artistic skill of Tanizaki Junichiro" (supervisor - Dr. TP Grigorieva). In 2004, defended a doctoral dissertation on the topic "Solving the humanitarian problem of Japanese prisoners of war in relations between the USSR and Japan (1945-2000) " at the Institute of Military History of the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation. Has been working at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences since January 1986.

Scientific interests:

Sphere of scientific interests: modern mass culture of Japan, history of Soviet-Japanese and Russian-Japanese relations, military history.

Professional and social activities:

Member of the Dissertation Council of the IAS RAS, Member of the Council of the Association of Japanologists, public advisor of the Center for Japanese-Russian Historical Studies, guest professor of the Japanese Academy of Fashion "Sugino", visiting researcher of the Osaka Institute of Economics and Law. Has memorable signs and letters of gratitude from Japanese public and cultural organizations for her contribution to the development of Russian-Japanese relations.

After graduating from university, worked for more than 10 years in the Union of Soviet Societies of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, being the secretary of the USSR-Japan Friendship Society; from 2000 to 2005, was elected to be the executive secretary of the Committee of the XXI century for the development of relations with Japan; from 2000 to 2003 - executive secretary of the Russian Association of Japanologists. Repeatedly went on research trips to Japan at the invitation of Japanese Keio and Hosei universities, as well as for participation in international symposia. In the period from 1991 to 1995, being appointed by the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, worked in the All-Japan Association of Former POWs in Japan (Tsuruoka), where she provided scientific and practical assistance in developing contacts with Russian state and civil society organizations and solving humanitarian problems related to the stay of Japanese prisoners of war on the territory of the former USSR after the end of World War II.
