The Association of Japanologists is a non-profit organization created in 1994. It is a collective member of the European Association of Japanese Studies (EAJS). It has the membership of more than 100 Russian citizens interested in Japan and Japanese Studies. They represent more than 20 Japanese studies centers, located in the Institute the Afro-Asian Studies, Moscow State University, St Petersburg State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University), the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian State Humanitarian University, the Far East Federal University (Vladivosotk), Kazan State University, Nizhny Novgorod State University and several other scientific centers and universities. The basic direction of the Association activity is the promotion of Japanese-related research in Russia. The Association keeps in touch with leading research institutes and universities of Russian Federation with Japanese Studies units, accumulates information and organizes Japanese Studies research programs, conferences, lecture courses etc. Besides, in cooperation with Japan Foundation the Association pursues a vast publishing program in the sphere of Japanese Studies. The Japanese Studies Scholarship program held by the Association is addressed to students, post-graduates, studying Japanese and Japan, and young Japanologists. The information about Scholarship Program (sent by mail, e-mail, fax; published on the official Association site) reaches all Russian centers and universities involved in Japanese studies. The Association announces the competition among Russian universities, institutes and other organizations concerned with Japanese studies, collects the completive works, estimates the received works by the Commission of experts, asserts the winners on the Association Council, prepares the ceremony of the awarding the winners with the diploma. The Association holds annual conferences dedicated to actual problems of contemporary Japan. The recent conferences were devoted to Russo-Japanese relations, the Role of Japan in the Integration Processes of the Asian Pacific Region and the Shifts in Japan’s domestic politics after the shift of power in 2009. In 2011 the conference will tackle the problems of socio-economic development of contemporary Japan. The Association receives a financial support from the Japan Foundation. Its financial management for 17 years of its history has been scrutinized several times, but never met a single claim from the state tax or other organs. |
